Found: Fried Okra in Maryland!!!

My search for fried okra had taken place over 4 years on the internet and in "real" life.
I even went so far as to ask other mid-wester/southerners if they had managed to locate any fried okra in a 50 mile radius of DC. Nothing.

Today, I felt like eating diner food, so I went with my neighbor, Ann, to the local crappy diner in College Park on Rt. 1, right by the beltway, who she promised was under new ownership and had good stuff.

The decor was the same, and the waitresses looked just as sad, but the food was awesome.

I ordered Chicken Fried Steak and it came with white gravy (apparently they're the only people who have even heard of it up here), and I chose mashed potatoes and fried okra as my sides.

The steak was mediocre, but the white gravy was good, and the okra was magnificent. Cooked perfectly!!! Fresh and delicious!
I almost had a heart attack when I saw it on the menu, of course, after all this time looking, I had found it by accident about a mile from my house! Who would have known?

Three Cheers for Fried Okra!

Hip Hip Hurray!
